Coding with Tech Steps.

On Wednesday the 30th of November we are very excited that the people from Tech Steps will spend most of the day in the Senior Room teaching the pupils about coding. Check back here in a couple of days to see how they got on.

Tech Steps are a Galway based training organisation ‘with a strong focus on educating children and young adults in digital skills, to equip them for tomorrow’s future’.

Fantastic DNA in a Box!

This week the pupils in the Senior Room had the opportunity to take part in a fantastic science experiment. It was facilitated by the Cell Explorers who sent all of the materials to the school so that we could turn our classroom into a real-life science lab. Each pupil got the opportunity to extract DNA from a banana and they all did so successfully! Everyone got to take home their sample of banana DNA and a Cell Explorers certificate. It was a fantastic experience.

Halloween Competition Winners.

Congratulations to Miru in 6th class and Patrick in Junior Infants who were both winners in the recent Halloween Competitions run by Aughnanure Castle.

Miru won 1st prize in the Spell Competition and Patrick won third prize in the Poster Competition.

Here is a copy of Miru’s spell for you to read and enjoy.

And this is Patrick’s prize winning Wanted Poster.

Well done to all of our pupils. Everyone entered the competition and worked very hard on their spells and posters. As well as our two prize winners many other pupils got ‘Highly Recommended’ certificates for their entries. The team in Aughnanure said that they got a fantastic response to the competitions this year and the guides had a very difficult task choosing the prize winning entries as all were of a very high standard.
